£250 from The Art Society Taunton

Local arts charity, Arts Taunton, are pleased to announce that they have been awarded a grant of £250 from The Art Society Taunton.

The grant has been specifically donated to help Arts Taunton’s Tyca Youth Festival (Taunton Youth Culture and Arts).

The festival aims to offer a platform for the young people of Taunton, and the surrounding towns, to showcase their talents and to learn from those already established and successful in the arts.

On awarding the grant, Jane Barrie, Chair of the Arts Society Taunton said:

“The Arts Society Taunton is delighted to be supporting local young people in the furtherance of art in its widest form and wish Tyca every success in their performances.”

The festival, now in its fourth year, has weathered the pandemic and further performances, previously unseen from the young artists, are scheduled for March this year. The performances will cover music and drama and be performed at the Tacchi Morris Arts Centre and Brewhouse Theatre from the 3rd – 6th of March.

Julie O’Donnell, lead trustee for Arts Taunton for the festival said:

“Arts Taunton is grateful to a ‘sister’ arts organisation, The Arts Society, Taunton, for supporting us in our work with young people in our Tyca Youth Festival. The Arts Society’s focus on the community means that their grant will go towards providing local young people the long-awaited opportunity to showcase the performances they had planned and towards which they had worked so hard last year. The arts are an important medium in which they can express themselves and this year we will be encouraging engagement in curriculum-based activities, working towards a large performance in 2023. Donations like this are incredibly important to allow us to continue our work with Tyca.”
