This is an ambitious, exciting aspiration and we want to know your thoughts on this project…
In a recent local youth consultation, young people were able to identify how this might resemble other iconic structures such as The Angel of the North, Wellington Monument, Stonehenge, the giant Rubber Duck, Christ the Redeemer, The Statue of Liberty and others.
They felt that this project would be: “weird”, “cool”, “exciting”, “people will want to come and see it”, “ might be scary in the dark”, “the art work should reflect the history of maps i.e. push pins”, “ a fire sculpture would be amazing”, “ our schools need to be involved”, its totally exciting”, “it will increase tourism and jobs for us” and “I love art, I want to be part of this”.
The young people suggested starting a FaceBook conversation, so here we are!
To give you some background, if this goes ahead none of the money used to build it will come from Tax Payers money – it will all be fund raised. This is likely to be many years in the making but at ArtsTaunton we want art to be for the greater good and of benefit to the public, we want to create societies that benefit from art and what it can bring to an area.
This group is open to everyone but we have set it up as private to protect people who want to post, only members of the group will see the comments. Anyone can apply to join us and posts will be moderated to ensure that it is kept family friendly and safe for everyone.
Come and share you thoughts with us…
