Are you 14-24 and feel your opinion doesn’t count?

What do you want Taunton to be like? Are you interested in the arts and your environment?

This is your chance to have a voice!

ArtsTaunton is an organisation that is working to make Taunton a more vibrant, culturally rich place for people to live, work, study and visit.

ArtsTaunton does this by finding out what kind of arts and leisure activities people enjoy and want, what kind of environment people want to live in and what kind of place people want Taunton to be in the future. We then bring people together to deliver the kind of Taunton people want, we also try to attract funding to support these efforts.

What ArtsTaunton is lacking right now is the constant voice of young people. We need to know what young people want from Taunton, to advise us and our partners.

These are some of the things we’d like advice on:

We are working with the UK Hydrographic Office to potentially commission a work for their site at Creechbarrow Hill, a work that will be seen from far and wide and will help people understand the amazing work the UKHO does and give Taunton identity.

One of our parters is Somerset WildlifeTrust and they are leading on bringing community representatives together to support Taunton Deane Borough Council make the most of it’s prestigious Garden Young People’s Advisory Representatives Town Status – we need young voices as part of the group. http://

Major developments like Firepool and Coal Orchard are happening bang in the middle of Taunton over the next few years and the Local Government need to know how people want the town centre to look and feel like. We need to know what young people want.

What kind of arts events do young people want?

What will you have to do as an Advisor to ArtsTaunton?

  1. Be available to meet with ArtsTaunton members every other month for around 1 hour to discuss current projects and give your perspective.
  2. Be willing to share issues relating to projects that are being developed with your peers through social media channels or face to face.
  3. Feedback findings to ArtsTaunton or their designated partner.
  4. Help shape surveys so they will gain feedback from young people. Be available for contact via email or telephone.

The time commitment overall will be between 1-3 hours per month. We would not expect an advisor to undertake the role for more than one year at a time, although advisors can opt to renew their role.

What’s in it for you?

Being an ArtsTaunton advisor will connect you to arts organisations and other professional bodies and help you influence how Taunton could be in the future.

This is something that will look great on your CV or university and job application.
