Art at the heart grants

An important part of Arts Taunton’s mission is to promote the arts for public benefit. As part of this work, we are introducing a new programme of arts collaboration for 2020 called ‘Art at the Heart’.

Arts Taunton is doing a call-out for arts projects, which, as an umbrella arts organisation for Taunton, it can support. Project ideas can be submitted by anyone within the community via a simple online portal. Submissions from applicants will be reviewed against the criteria below.

One or two projects will then be selected for 2020 by the Board of Trustees of Arts Taunton. Arts Taunton will fund up to 50% of the cost of the chosen project(s), up to a total contribution of £4,000 per project.

Application criteria

Projects should:

  • Fill a need for arts provision in our community.
  • Not be focused solely on the young (5-25) as this group is the focus of Tyca, our youth arts festival.
  • Be a compelling and sustainable project.
  • Build engagement with culture in areas of Taunton where there is low provision or take-up.
  • Put people at the centre of the process.
  • Propose entirely new work, or the development or widening of an existing initiative.
  • Fit within the Taunton Cultural Strategy of the Somerset West and Taunton Council, when it is released.
  • Have a defined pathway of support or progression for participants after the project ends.
  • Applicants can be individuals, groups, charities or other coalitions. Applicants will be asked to submit a budget and a financial declaration with their application.

Timeline and practical logistics

  • 30 April 2020 – Submission deadline
  • 29th May 2020 – The Board of Trustees of Arts Taunton selects one or two projects (for the year 2020) to which it will donate 50% of the necessary funds, up to a limit of £4000 per project

  • June 2020 – Successful applicant(s) are asked to sign a contract with Arts Taunton concerning marketing, finances, timelines for delivery and evaluation depending on project outlines.
